Yup, this was supposed to be Nintendo's PS3/Xbox One moment despite nothing Nintendo has done matching such a description.
Switch 2 not being sold out everywhere is now a meaningless observation, because the announced sales confirm that Switch 2 had much more initial stock available than any other video game system ever. Switch 1 shipments for the entirety of March 2017 were 2.74m.
Funny anecdote: Today I met an acquaintance who I wouldn't have thought of as being interested in buying a Switch 2 at launch, and he said he couldn't get one so far, but at least has bought controllers. He also mentioned that one of his friends already got a Switch 2, another guy I wouldn't have thought of as an early adopter. But maybe that's important here: All the whining on the internet came from hardcore gamers who are on a tight budget. Normal people have money.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.
