As a longtime Nintendo fan, Switch 2 really underscores how dramatically the company has shifted in the last decade.

This new console feels like it comes from a totally different company to the Wii U, 3DS, Wii, DS, etc. Everything from the design language to the materials is night and day different.

Even the new game cases are a bold aggressive design with bright red, as opposed to the blue/grey cases in the 7th and 8th gen.

Heck, even compared to Switch 1 their whole approach feels more assertive and high end.

Which I think highlights the differences between Furukawa and Iwata.

Some people may not agree or like what I'm about to say here - Iwata, God rest his soul, I miss him dearly... But he often got in his own way, and Nintendo's way, with constantly trying to innovate and reinvent the wheel or force gimmicks that were just unnecessary (DS -> 3DS; Wii -> Wii U). He didn't quite get the idea of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Something that Furukawa clearly understands and one place where I will give him points over Iwata for. The Switch was clearly their most successful product in company history - Trying to deviate or innovate too much from that would be downright stupid. The Switch 2 isn't some wacky gimmick trying to reinvent the wheel or rethink ways on how we play a game. It's just a bigger, faster, stronger Switch. That's all it needs to be!
