The Switch's last month to itself is somewhat better than expected so far though the PS5's return to over 10k was short lived. With nearly 20k Switch OLED's sold for this week I wonder why those people are only just now getting one instead of waiting a bit to get a Switch 2 for not much more.

Maybe the reason is the OLED screen itself

Perhaps though someone valuing that over every advantage the Switch 2 has is strange to me. If someone is mainly a handheld gamer then the screen combined with the better battery life is more understandable but even then I still wonder why someone would wait till now to finally get one when the Switch 2 coming this year has been known about for a while now.

What i find interesting is that OLED sales still dominate, you would think base Switch and Switch Lites would start selling more than the OLED by now. Because why would casuals that get the Switch after 8 years on the market buy the most expensive Switch model? Could be the case that even casual gamers are willing to pay premium for the best experience, which bodes well for Switch 2 sales potential in Japan.

Do keep in mind that the OLED model is the reason the Switch is already down a lot YoY. The Lite is actually somewhat up and the regular one is down by a lot less. The OLED should fall further within the next couple months or so due to the Switch 2 launch.
