Kids playing free to play and old games nowadays. Roblox, Minecraft, Genshin Impact, Fortnite, etc. Every entry level PC can easily run them, I mean even a Switch can run them lol

PCs are only expensive if you are targeting high specs. They are also better because kids can use their PCs to browse internet, study, do schooling tasks, etc. On top of that it's a portable device

If I was a father I would buy a laptop to my kid, it's a much better value than a console

there’s also the casual gamer (which comprise a vast majority of Nintendo gamers) who are just looking to play Animal Crossing but don’t own a several thousand dollar computer to emulate (or—in event that the heat death of the universe has come to pass—officially purchase) it. Same with people looking for party games like MarioKart or Smash Bros. Maybe you could make an argument for PS getting outcompeted? Though again, I firmly believe that the casual consumer isn’t looking at investing into an expensive computer to play the latest SpiderMan or GoW. Especially not with how inconvenient it can be to simply try and play a game without encountering hundreds of bugs/errors (e.g., Dragon’s Dogma 2).

also, the “Roblox” gamer is not and has never been a console gamer. If we’re talking about the migration of console gamers to PC, why bring up a demographic that was never on console to begin with? Feels like a bit of a red herring…and to be more precise, my point in bringing up children was in reference to those that specifically want games from a console; e.g., SpiderMan, Mario, CoD, etc.

I addressed specifically the audience of parents that buy consoles for kids, and I brought the games that the most popular with this demography. To say they were never console gamers is pointless, because the idea here is parents giving them a new or first console in first place

The idea you need a expensive computer to play games is detatched from reality. You can buy a computer who can run games that target Switch specs for bargain bin prices. If in 2025 Switch still being a gift for kids even with ancient tech there is no reason to spend thousands of dollars in a computer, even more when you already needs to give your kid a PC for school assignments
