I half think it's an odd strategy by Bethesda and MS in general. GP wasn't lacking launches this month, with South of Midnight, Blue Prince and this to name a few. Bethesda themselves have Doom releasing in what? 3 weeks? I'd say people buying Oblivion might even be put off buying Doom too, as people have limited time and Oblivion is a big game. Also, MS and especially Bethesda have limited games for the rest of the year. Besthesda have no more titles and MS have maybe 1 big announced one (Outer Worlds 2, unless I'm missing anything else?). Unless they plan to do this "stealth" release more often but that will only really work with things like existing titles, remaster or remakes. No one cares about a stealth release for a new franchise title. |
It's not that weird. This is a way to make Game Pass look undeniable great and will keep subs for extended amount of time. Netflix and other subs do the same thing with droppings a bunch of content all at once and it works. You can sub to Game Pass or pay X amount for all these games. Then dropping ps5 releases of Indiana Jones and Forza Horizon 5. This is a way to really props up their quarterly earnings for Xbox. There has been substantial growth of Game Pass since Black Ops 6 with rumors of reaching 50 million subs.
Xbox still has Doom The Dark Ages, Outer Worlds 2, THPS 3+4 remake, Ninja Gaiden 4, CoD 2025, and maybe even something else. Overall, this year is stacked with releases from Xbox and really makes Game Pass enticing.
