Well for comparison, here in Canada:
Switch launched at CAD 399, BotW CAD 80 for physical edition Switch 2 is set to launch at CAD 629 (+58%), physical games are not priced yet $80 USD is currently CAD 111 (+39%)
Canada inflation from 2017 to now is 25.7% (According to Bank of Canada)
So Nintendo prices are going up over double the inflation rate here for the console, 150% over for games.
And no discounted Nintendo games here, second hand only.
(Correction, MKW is $80 in USD) |
What was a WiiU game? In Australia, the price has kind of been the same for the last 2 generations, so no inflectional increases till now.

Sony got dragged for 70$ games and deservedly so. Nintendo is doing 80$ games (and 90$ physical). If you are okay with or much worse trying to defend it, then you are just a Fanboy and shouldn't be taken seriously. |
There is also another group, I been advocating for $1000 consoles so we can see significant generational jumps compared to what we are seeing atm. I'd happily pay way more for 4k games if that become the norm, as it costs more to make and developers wages are always increasing.
