Update from me: I actually started playing the game and after 8 hours in, I really enjoy it! Sure, RPG elements are next to non-existent and the game is as linear as it gets. But that's fine by me. The combat is a hell lot of fun and I do enjoy the story this far. So the game actually exceeded my expectations and showed me that my first impression was very wrong, at least to me personally. Then again, I really enjoyed FF13 which was also absolutely hated by people and I consider the beloved FF9 to be one of the worst entries of the series So maybe I'm not the best person to ask about the quality of Final Fantasy games.
Looking forward to finish this game! Still don't care about sales numbers, but without this thread I wouldn't even have thought about getting FF16, lol. =D
