This is the closest we've had to a Nintendo console being on par with competing systems in about 20 years, which is pretty crazy especially considering it also functions as a handheld.

Well sure, but it's only close when it's docked and not being used as a handheld lol. PS5/XBS will almost be five years old when this launches too, which feels weird, and it's a more expensive Nintendo console. So it's not that crazy really! But it's nice to see.

It's more and more clear the "Switch era" is its own era, and the Wii/DS/3DS/Wii U era is over hardware wise (just as the NES-SNES-N64-GameCube that preceded that was a distinct era).

Nintendo is making more tech conscious decisions and more tech capable hardware these days, maybe not absolute bleeding edge because then it would cost like $800, but still a lot more premium and less toy-like of a product. 120 fps VRR capable screen, even stuff like in the Welcome Tour game they're highlighting how many pixels 4K is by using the old Super Mario Bros. Level 1-1 (lol) and it has other mini-games about guessing the frame rate. IGN in their impressions mentioned how the Switch 2 feels like a very premium product and makes even the first Switch feel like a toy.
