I've been consistent on this before too, when we got word on some of the specs of the Switch 2 ... this was not going to be a budget/cheap priced system and that was months ago. |
Lower price point is the reason why consoles (and gaming) became so popular in the 2000s. Back in the 90s, consoles sold less, and games even less. There comes a point where people simply can’t afford to play games and choose to spend their money on other hobbies instead. Kids and teenagers mostly play free-to-play live service games anyway
I think the console market is finally reaching the point where it will become cost-prohibitive for many. They always were outside America, Europe and certain Asian countries but now the main markets will be affected. The decline of PS5 in Europe compared to PS4 will show that, Switch 2 selling significantly less than Switch 1 there is almost a given
Generations will become pointless when a significant part of userbase refuse to upgrade because upgrading is becoming too expensive. Better to just buy a cheap PC for 450 USD and give your kid to play Minecraft and Fortinite instead of giving a 450 USD Switch 2, the share of older games in the steam most played displays a tendency of power upgrades (CPU, GPUs and Memory) being less and less required over time gives PCs much longer lifespans than what they used to have back in the 2000s
