Yes but my point is every successful launch for Nintendo has had either mainline Mario or Zelda. SNES had SMW, N64 M64, Gamecube didn't and it did very poorly, Wii had TP tho of course Wii Sports was the main thing there, WiiU had 2D Mario instead of 3D Mario and the system was a complete failure (for many other reasons too of course), Switch had BotW. Switch 2 obviously wasn't going to have Zelda at launch or any time in the next few years, so 3D Mario was 100% expected, instead it wasn't even shown and they have no major single player first party game at launch. And DK is much less popular than Mario and isn't even coming out until 6 weeks after launch. There's no way to sugar coat it, that particular aspect (which is important) is a HUGE blunder by Nintendo. Mario Kart looks incredible, but no 3D Mario for the launch is simply the biggest mistake Nintendo could make. |
The 3D Donkey Kong is basically Odyssey 2 it looks like to me, just with Donkey Kong. I get it, they invested massively into a DK theme park at Universal, there was always going to be a big DK game, probably there is a Donkey Kong spin-off movie coming at some point too. I'm not too bothered about it. Mario Kart is a way bigger franchise than Mario platformers these days too, and Mario Kart + Mario 3D platformer together earlier would be a bit too much Mario. Mario Kart + Donkey Kong + Metroid Prime 4 feels a bit more balanced IP wise.
