Well, soriku can explain this in more detail and it's quite complicated.
As far as I understand it there are 3 main Takes games; Phantasia, Destiny and Symphonia. The new Wii game supposedly falls in this category. These are the games with the highest budgets, and Namco refers to them as "Mothership" titles.
Then there are the games like Vesperia, Abyss, Legendia, Rebirth. Also main games, but with slightly less budget.
Spin offs like Dawn of the New world
Spin-offs like Tales of the World and Fandom: contains characters of different Tales games, not very good games, low budget
Edit: Wiki has a different opinion, lol. I remember to have read that there were 2 types of main games.
