'Want to misappropriate you': MAGA superintendent mocked with Valentine's Day-themed barbs Sarah K. Burris

Critics hurled Valentine's Day-themed barbs at a far-right Oklahoma school official who made a name for himself nationally by attempting to use tax-payer dollars to force Donald Trump Bibles into classrooms.

Cassi Peters, regional political director at the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, shared graphics on social media with State Superintendent for Public Instruction Ryan Walters' face cut out in a heart, akin to small cards children receive at school.

One said, "Are you a covid relief fund.... because I would definitely misappropriate you."

"My love for you will never DEI! Happy Valentine's Day! Love, RyRy," another said.

Rep. Jacob Rosecrants, a Norman Democrat, shared a graphic that said, "Are you a test score? Because I wanna see you get LOW."

"I’ve seen a bunch of these Walters-themed V-Day graphics floating about, but this is by far my favorite (and it’s spot on, to boot)! Lol" said Rosecrants.

Feb. 13, is often celebrated as Galentine's Day for gal-pals, but it has extended beyond the gender. A Novel Idea Bookshop in Guthrie, Oklahoma, shared a graphic of Walters with Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) celebrating Friendship Day, saying, "Stitt Happens: Books that Chronicle Buddies Gone Bad."

Last week, the far-right MAGA governor appointed three new members for the Board of Education to oversee Walters. Stitt said that the oversight was needed after needless political drama and bad national testing, KOCO News reported.

Retired Oklahoma teacher Claudia Swisher shared one on Facebook saying, "Is that a ClassWallet in your pocket ... or are you just happy to see me? Love, RyRy."

Florida-based ClassWallet purports to be a digital wallet company that allows school districts to distribute funds. Walters was involved in a corruption scandal after Oklahoma was given $360 million to fund a public education system during the 2020 pandemic. Walters helped ClassWallet win a contract with the state without getting any other bids from competitors. The government then quickly handed out $8 million that was supposed to go to students but it had “little government oversight," said a report from Oklahoma Watch and The Frontier. It ended up being used by people for many other things, including gambling.

ClassWallet was paid $650,000 to distribute the federal funds.
