I'll exclude Switch from the years like you said, but that will hurt the ratings of the years.
2020 - 7/10
This was mostly an eight-generation year, given the holiday season releases of the new consoles. As far as cross-gen games launching and next-gen games, it was not incredible but some solid stuff. Unfortunately, almost everything was cross-gen. Miles Morales and Astro's Playroom were the best.
2021 - 6/10
Pretty quiet in terms of anything I cared about. The two main highlights were PS5 enhanced versions of Ghost of Tsushima and Final Fantasy VII Remake. This was not a reassuring first full calendar year for the new consoles.
2022 - 8/10
Horizon: Forbidden West, Midnight Suns, Skywalker Saga, and a definitive campaign version of The Last of Us.
2023 - 8/10
Spider-Man 2 is the highlight. I like Jedi Survivor as well. Still not an excellent year on the 9th gen side.
2024 - 9/10
FF7 Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, Astro's Playroom, what a banger year. I almost give it a 10. Despite some cross-gen games still around, this feels like the first full year of the 9th generation.
2025 will probably be a 9/10.
