JWeinCom said: So... you don't care for the Switch? The hybrid form and detachable controllers are certainly gimmicks. A lot of other features that are now commonplace can be considered gimmicks. Gimmicks, done correctly, are part of what move gaming forward. That's not to say they should throw in a gimmick just for the hell of it if they didn't come up with a good one, but if the system is going to just be an upgraded Switch, that's not super exciting in and of itself to me. If the selling point is just more powerful hardware, then they should have shown how that power will make games better. When the Switch trailer was released it was immediately clear how the new machine would change my gaming experience. With this, I don't see much to be excited about yet aside from the fact that it's bigger, which is a mixed bag at best. |
I'm talking about the Switch 2, not Switch 1. The Hybrid form is nice, I use my OLED for portable to play third party games and my OG Switch for docked first party games. But the Joy cons....bleh.
You dont need gimmicks to make gaming move forward. The games themselves do that.
I dont use the detachable controllers - I use a Pro controller even when I'm traveling/remote. I've never used the actual joycons for any of the games I played. I know there's games like the Pokemon Lets Go series and The World Ends With You that requires them but havent played them yet.
Gimmicks like 3D, motion controls, dual screen, using a gamepad as a map/inventory are features that I did not like, did not have interest and avoided using when I could. Even the WiiU's gamepad, the only time I ever used it was when Zelda BotW forced me to use it on puzzles, aside from that I used the WiiU pro controller.
The system is going to be an upgraded Switch with Switch 1 b/c which is what I wanted.
They'll showcase on how powerful it is and what games it will have come April, this was obviously an official announcement due to all the leaks - there's no pricing, no release date, no specs, nothing. It was a reveal, not a breakdown.
Even if its not on par with the modern consoles which I dont think it'll be or even be less powerful than expected, its not like I'm going out in droves to buy third party games on it - I got a gaming PC, a PS5 and a Series X for that. As far as software goes, I'm excited for what first party titles are coming out.
Well ya...going from a garbage system like the WiiU to a Switch would be a big change and exciting for any one lol.
For me this jump will be more like going from the PS4 to PS5 rather than the PS3 to PS4 or PS2 to PS3 - and I'm completely fine with that.
