Must confess I am a little bit underwhelmed by the debut. If the Switch 2 just an upgraded Switch, that's fine. But if the hardware is not doing anything new and exciting, then I think they should have focused more on software.Wish the direct were sooner.

What matters the most is what games will be available and how they run.

Dont care for any gimmicks - I'm glad they didnt do anything drastic on the hardware.

So... you don't care for the Switch? The hybrid form and detachable controllers are certainly gimmicks. A lot of other features that are now commonplace can be considered gimmicks.

Gimmicks, done correctly, are part of what move gaming forward.

That's not to say they should throw in a gimmick just for the hell of it if they didn't come up with a good one, but if the system is going to just be an upgraded Switch, that's not super exciting in and of itself to me. If the selling point is just more powerful hardware, then they should have shown how that power will make games better.

When the Switch trailer was released it was immediately clear how the new machine would change my gaming experience. With this, I don't see much to be excited about yet aside from the fact that it's bigger, which is a mixed bag at best.

Although they may not have had any other software in a presentable state to show this morning.

They're promising playable hands on experiences in April. If they don't have software that they could showcase in video form yet, they're pretty fucked.
