I generally play older machines for another 2 generations - I still dip into Wii from time to time. Even PSX to play certain RPGs that haven’t been pushed to modern platforms yet (Suikoden a year ago after it became clear Konami publishing fucked up the announcement).

That said, I’ve been ready for Switch 2 since about 2019. When tiered setting become more the norm on consoles, I’m hoping for 2-3 years between hardware instead of 5-8 years. I don’t care if generational support continues for 10+ years, but I’d prefer to top up my top end consoles with more meaningful upgrades—not just OLED, or a bigger screen, but updated chipsets.
