I mean it's pretty much logic. 

If you were 10 years old in 1990 when Super Mario Bros. 3 launched in the West and in the target demo for that, you would be 15/16 when the PS1 launched and 20 when the PS2 launched.

Think about how different you were at age 10, 15, and 20.
