My i7-4790K is paired with an RTX 3070.
About 4 years ago, I compared my benchmark scores with systems running 3070s and newer CPUs. At 4K resolution, the performance difference was negligible—my CPU managed fine. However, at 1080p, I was getting roughly half the FPS compared to newer CPUs. At the time, the i7-4790K still handled modern games well, as long as you were content with 4K 60fps.

Fast forward to 2024, and I’m starting to notice limitations.
I can't run modern games at native 4K with this GPU. DLSS has become more prevalent, but I suspect the dated architecture of my build is limiting how much I can benefit from it. Lowering the resolution doesn’t help as much, as the CPU becomes more of a bottleneck. My options to enhance game performance is seemingly starting to become more and more constrained.
For comparison, my PS5 runs modern games like Final Fantasy XVI better than my PC does.

I was considering picking up a 9800x3d or something similar, and then a new GPU within the next year.
