Nintendo actually does seem to do better when it comes to new IPs compared to many of their competitors. For example during the Switch era, these are new Nintendo IPs:

Ring Fit Adventure, Arms, 1-2 Switch, as well as Astral Chain which is an IP Nintendo owns. Combined they sold over 20 million copies. I don't think many of their competitors launched new IPs that sold that much in the last 7 years or so.

Sure, their new IPs are very often casual leaning franchises, but still, sales count.

Compared to MS maybe.

Sony launched Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Zero Dawn in the last 7 years.

Horizon Zero Dawn alone sold 24.3m+.

Ghost of Tsushima sold 13m+.

You prove my point. Basically Horizon is the only new Sony IP that did better than Ring fit adventure (15 million copies sold as of yet). Meaning that Nintendo is still one of the top players when it comes to new IP Success. Compare that to their Japanese competitors like Capcom who can't create any new IP that does well for example.
