PS2 was at 155,1 million as of march 31, 2012. Thats an ice cold FACT! not "more than", not "nearly" but 155,1 million. Thats what counts! Some days ago this number was changed to "over 160 million units". Not as of march 31, 2013 but march 31, 2012! An official number has been changed to be "prepared" if the Switch comes close.

For "lying": Nintendo has always been transparent with its numbers, Top or Flop. Heck they even provided WiiU numbers even if it was only 13,56 million. Sony is hiding Vita numbers till today. A console wichs last number was 155,1 million now all of a sudden is "over 160 million"? Does that mean they "lied" before? And 82,51 million PSPs (exactly 1 million above the GBA) who seriously believe that? Don't you think that if the PSP actually really outsold the GBA, Sony would have told us in 2014? If would have been the sensation of the year. The first non Nintendo handheld outselling a Game Boy. But now "announce" (lienounce) such news in a standard twitter podcast?

What if MS came out now and showed us an Xbox 360 with 89,725,737 million units written on it. Would you buy that? Or a Nintendo DS with 164,395,394 million units? Would you buy that? I wouldn't. I am by far not the only one doubting that numbers.

Also consoles for displays are included on these numbers. Because they have also be MANUFACTURED, like it or not so they are included. They are not written off. And a console that was used as a display has never been sold. So this number includes them.

For your "only Nintendo tells the truth":

Look at it.nintendo.com

Do they report "maufactured" or "shipped"?

First, PS2 100% sure it sold more than 155.1M since it sold for another 10 months since March 2012.

Second, again, PSP is 82.52 not 82.51M.

Third Sony could announce 160M for PS2 and PSP beating GBA, but then the Vita fail numbers would come up. And this was priority for them, more than showing off with numbers for consoles that are dead by then. Vita was just getting starting it's life on the market.

Fourth, how are you sure that in every report numbers for every console of Nintendo or the xbox 360 does not include those demo units too ? How are you sure those numbers are for real sold consoles and why you are not saying the same for them, that those numbers are lower since demo units were a thing with every of them ?

Easy: 1.) Micsosoft stopped ptoviding numbers. The last number we know was from june 2013 where they announced over 84 million units sold. After that we heard nothing. We only know the system was discontinued on april 22, 2016,a full 2 years later. So we can leave MS out of here.

2.) If you go to ir.nintendo.com they always provide SHIPPED units, not manufactored. If a system is not made for sale it does not count as "shipped", because it gets sent back to the company after its life is over. Thats what we always do with old systems. If i said anything else i would be lying. Fact is also that these systems are not made to play games. Often they lack functions preventing a full console experience. As someone with sales experience, i think you will agree with me when i tell you, that this displays are not sold to costumers!?

As for the PS2 its number was always confirmed to be 155,1 million as of march 2012. This fact stands and is undeniable. Fact is also that Sony changed this number to "over 160 million" as of november 29, 2024. If they said: over 155,1 million or ~160 million as of march 31, 2013, we could argue. But you have to admit, there is something wrong with these numbers... because i am pointing to these facts and not believing every BS i hear i get attacked. There are a ton of videos on youtube full of people using the same arguments and here this gets completly ignored! I DO NOT THINK IT WILL HAPPEN, but what if the Switch passed 160 million and Sony came out and said "oh actually its 165 million"? Where are we drawing the line? Where do we say that we do not believe it anymore? Its clear they came out with this the moment it was clear the Switch will be over 150 million (SHIPPED) by the end of the year. Don't you think thats strange? Changing an already confirmed number?

I come with plausible arguments and facts and i get attacked.
