So why don't they just say so?

Surprise is a powerful marketing tool. By not explicitly dismissing the possibility a 2024 reveal, ppl will continue endlessly speculating on something that obviously won’t happen. Nintendo is infamous for saying something that completely contradicts what they aftly end up doing for this exact reason: “Ridley’s too big for Smash!” (first character revealed for SSBU (They did what they once claimed impossible!)), “2D Zelda cannot coexist with 3D Zelda” (EoW releases one year later (I thought Zelda could not coexist??)), etc.

They've already specified they will announce it before the end of March 2025, so we already know roughly when the date could be, it can't be that big of a surprise. It just seems stupid if you want to focus on Switch 1 this holiday ... then like, why needlessly keep this dumb charade going on. This holiday is for the Switch 1, just say so and get it over with.

My feeling is they are worried there could be a supply side leak which may force them to reveal earlier than expected and are not clarifying a time period for that reason.

If tomorrow some random dude working at a factory leaked the Switch 2 from an assembly line, well then Nintendo may feel they have to retake control of the narrative and give an official announcement.
