Tech like this is definitely gonna be one of the main selling points that get pushed for the next generation of consoles. PSSR 2.0 introducing its own version of frame generation that results in lots of games on the PS6 getting a 120fps option would be significant.

I feel like thats a logical next step.

This gen with the AI upscaleing they get PSSR up to spec, ei. spend a few more years uptimiseing it, and getting it as close to DLSS as possible.
Next gen, we will see Frame Gen used on consoles as well.

With options to run either at 60fps (without frame gen) (for people without 120hz tv's) and then a toggle/auto option for people that have 120hz, that then uses frame gen.  The fact that its so loved on pc, makes it a sure thing for next gen imo.  Naturally this is for any future Xbox or Playstation 6's.  I seriously doubt, Nintendo will get frame generation, this gen (switch 2) or next or one after (nintendo is a few gens behinde when it comes to this sort of thing, and doesn't seem to value it much).

Even if input lag predictably takes a hit that won't be as big a deal for the average console gamer and a lot of them with 120hz tvs will wanna get use out of that increased refresh rate. It won't happen with the Switch 2 but it should happen for the system after that since that won't be coming out till 2032 at the earliest and way better ray tracing will be another selling point for the PS6 since path tracing will be possible on it.
