I mean from writing perspectives, David Cage's own systemic and sexist beliefs do come across so strongly in his characters that I couldn't believe how people could be truly enamored to his stories without getting whiplash. The worst aspects comes in his multiple path stories where only one of the routes he writes comes in as competently done where as the rest are flawed with characters and internal knowledge consistency and unexplored thematics that does not go beyond the surface level.
In that sense, Telltale games aren't giving you much of an actual choice to actually influence the course of their stories but their best written games like The Walking Dead, Takes From the Borderlands or The Wolf Among Us have more competently written through line.
Supermassive games are basically chasing the ghost of Until Dawn's lightning in a bottle success. The runtime of their smaller games are often not enough to actualize their characters journey and make them compelling. It's not like they can't do it per say. I'd argue from the Dark Pictures Anthology series, House of Ashes and Devil Within Me are more interesting tales than their more bigger recent venture like the Quarry.
Hopefully the 2nd season of it will begin with a bang with Directive 8020. Space horror is a subject not explored enough.
