Ooooof. That's quite an indictment on the gaming industry when 3 re-releases are considered the best of the year so far |
In all fairness, they're remakes.
From a scale of most remade to least
1. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: So different it's not even close.
2. Persona 3 Reload: Quite different from the original, FES, and Portable but with some strong similarities.
3. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - A remake more in line with The Last of Us Part I where it feels like the graphics are one of the few things remade.
But yeah, not a lot of competition at the moment that wouldn't be a remake. Maybe what Adonis mentioned: Warhammer and Space Marine.
There's almost no chance anymore of Switch 2 launching this year, so a Switch 2 exclusive isn't going to be in the running. If a 3D Mario came out this year for Switch or Switch 2 (but again little chance of a 2024 release) that could be GOTY or close.
As much faith as I want to have in Astro Bot to be great, I think a 90-91 Metacritic score is the upper limit and it will probably be in the low to mid 80s actually.
