Nintendo pretty much always has a June Direct to showcase their software lineup for the second half of the year, and it makes sense to stick with this strategy if they really want to ship 13.5 million Switches this FY.

Their ambitious forecast suggests that either they have some seriously major software yet to the announced for later this year, or perhaps a new hardware revision, or possibly both, cos there's no way they're reaching that mark with just ports, minor software, and the current SKUs.

Don't worry, that's where we get the unexpected actual reveal for a new 3D Mario game + Metroid Prime 4 !

Obviously, if Zelda could get two major games on a single console gen, why not 3D Mario lol ...

I mean I'm only half joking saying that. Most likely the next 3D Mario is reserved for the Switch successor but heh, ya never know with Nintendo 😉

I'm pretty sure the next 3D Mario will be for the successor, but there's a chance the Direct could finally unveil Metroid Prime 4 for a release this year.

It's been nearly five and a half years since development was rebooted under Retro, even accounting for the pandemic it should be finished or nearly finished by now.

About the only reason I can see not to show it is if it has indeed been moved to the successor, but given development started way back in 2019 it seems more likely it's a late Switch 1 title rather than a next gen one.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but it's a possibility at least.

Prime 4 ain't gonna see 13.5 million Switches though, so there has to be something bigger first party wise coming as well, something more mainstream.
