Just Finished: Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (PS5)
The force was not strong with this one. I am generally a fan of most Lego games that tie in with a popular IP. Lego Star Wars started it all. I loved the original and played it over and over on the PS2 when I was younger. I played other Lego games like Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, and even reviewed Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars for this site very highly. However, for many reasons I did not enjoy this game as much as I hoped I would. Featuring levels spanning all 9 mainline movies provides ample opportunity to relive the series' most exciting moments. However the level design sucks. It's boring and confusing. There is some attempt at having an overworld system but that just makes it difficult to determine when a proper level starts or ends. The UI is horrible. There are so many long and complicated menus. I never learned how to buy unlockable characters and eventually gave up. I know the game is aimed at kids but the puzzles were too simple and repetitive. There were a lot of missed opportunities to make cool gameplay segments out of cool movie moments like the land speeder section from the end of The Last Jedi. I know the Lego games added voice acting a while ago, but I prefered the humor of the games when the characters didn't talk. The jokes were cheesy and cringe. I played for 15 hours (shorter than the time it would take to watch all 9 films) and was glad to be finally done.
Score: 6/10
