Just Finished: Nobody Saves the World (PS5)

I played this because it was a free PS Plus game. It was a fun 2D online co-op RPG to play with my buddy. It has some 2D Zelda vibes, with a large, detailed map with lots to explore. The combat is pretty simple button mashing as you would find in most dungeon crawlers. The game's hook is that your character can change forms and use different abilities. Some of the forms you can assume are turtle, bodybuilder, monk, mermaid and dragon. They all play a bit differently and the game encourages you to use them all when appropriate. The handdrawn 2D visuals are crisp, clean, and colorful. The story and the game world are eccentric but nothing that I will remember years from now. The leveling up system is kind of addicting. The music is repetitive but not unpleasant to listen to. The game can be challenging at times. My favorite forms were the turtle, bodybuilder, and dragon. I don't think I would have been able to enjoy or even finish this game had I attempted it solo. The co-op works pretty smoothly. The adventure took over 15 hours which was about the right length for me. This makes me yearn for a 2D Zelda game with online co-op. Make it happen Nintendo!

Score: 7/10
