PS is also now in a content war with MS and others, and they need profits badly to make sure they don't fall too far behind going forward. When MS is spending 100 billion over the course of a few years like it's not really a big deal, because for MS it mostly isn't, a company like SNY isn't just going to sit around and watch or they're going to pay dearly in due time.

I completely skipped the rest of my thought and moved on earlier without realizing it.

PS nor SNY has tens or hundreds of billions to easily throw around like MS, so they have to be very efficient and strategic about how they spend and make money now. One of the few things they can do to quickly maximize profits would be to port existing or even new games to PC or even other platforms. Exactly what XB has been doing for quite some time now and is expanding on.

This makes it seem like PS is proving XB right as to multiplatform being the right move for gaming, which isn't necessarily true. It certainly seems that way to XB because they've needed it for growth for some time, but the main reason PS has started to do it, and looks to be furthering the multiplatform idea, is because they don't have a lot of choice.

If PS was simply doing this out of corporate greed, it's hard to believe that they wouldn't have gone multiplatform to some degree long ago on their own. Ever since PS4 it wouldn't have been that difficult. If PS stays the course and MS keeps buying game devs and pubs for XB, which MS says they will, it's only a matter of time before PS is going to be cornered with no way out and would have to take drastic measures.

PS basically has to do this with its titles and has to take most of those profits and build up PS Studios while also shopping around, before MS and others gobble up too much of the industry and market. It is not a matter of PS mostly wanting to, it's because they've basically been forced to. Some may see it as good, others not so much, but there really isn't that much that PS or SNY can do otherwise to combat it.
