S.Peelman said: Yeah the huge decline of XBox is something. Talk about a 'cliff'. At the start of this generation, I was at least thinking it would do a bit better than XBox One and chip away a bit of Sony's marketshare, because they seemed to be doing things right. But now, it's just been left in the dust. |
What exactly have they been doing right, though?
The Xbox X is more expensive while offering no more power than what the PS5 does at a cheaper price point.
Their software output has been inconsistent and weak, to say the least. Their biggest game in years, supposedly the biggest wRPG this generation, has completely failed to live up to the hype, scoring less than every other RPG on meteoritic released this year including FF16, its steam score continues to drop (currently at 6/10). The other big release was Red Fall, this one speaks for itself. HiFi Rush has been the high point. Here is the kicker, all games that would've made it to the scene with MS buying Bethesda or not, so why would any neutral gamer be happy with games that would've existed either way is beyond me.
Gamepass has stagnated and it's not like it was an innovative service or anything, it's already been addressed by the competition to an adequate degree. The base subscription has been a complete joke compared to PSN Essentials.
Imo, despite the poor sales, Xbox Series have exceeded my expectations, not because of anything they've done right, but because they really got lucky with the pandemic and PS5 supply shortages.
