Its potent atmosphere and genuine scariness make it a wonderful old school throwback to the PS2 glory days of survival horror, and in a generation where the genre became more focused on jump scares and action, its masterful slow burn was a breath of fresh air.

I beated Fatal Frame 2 on PS2 years ago. Indeed, it's very good. Played a bit of the first game too, but never finished it.

The series has some very smart scares instead of just throwing things on your face with screams. I remember a place on the first game, I think, where you see a spirit falling down from the ceiling over and over again like some kind of loop. This scene got stuck on my head.
