There are two arguments I don't understand that I see on this site and others.
1. Breath of the Wild feels like a proof of concept or tech demo compared to Tears of the Kingdom. I don't get this argument. Breath of the Wild is already a large game with plenty to do.
2. Tears of the Kingdom feels like DLC. This I really don't understand. Tears of the Kingdom has changed more than enough from Breath of the Wild in content and its structure to be its own game.
All that being said, I do prefer Breath of the Wild after having just finished the final boss in Tears of the Kingdom. Breath of the Wild had more of a wow and newness factor, and better lore to the game. The crafting in Tears of the Kingdom is clunkier than I would have liked, and I don't feel any impetus to really go crazy with it. The depths offer a lot of area to explore but I'm not overly fond of exploring in the dark and gloom. The gloom mechanic is also a negative to me, and harvesting sundelions to deal with it is annoying.

This is exactly how I feel, including hating the fuse mechanics. I really wish could they could just went for botw with far more refinements and news areas then this approach which is just far too grindy.
