Xbox Series losing ground to Xbox One even in the month that Starfield came out really is a damning indictment.
At this point, I really doubt XS will manage to sell as much as the Xbone, which in itself fell nearly 30 million short of the 360.
The brand really is rancid at this point, a decade of mismanagement have left it more or less dead in the water.

Console sales wise sure it is looking like this gen for Xbox will be around the same as last gen (+/- 5 million). However, Xbox brand has grown outside the console market to the PC market. Xbox is bringing in record revenue for the business despite hardware sales being down. And this is before Activision Blizzard, which is expected to help Xbox revenue grow ~50% year-over-year in the holiday quarter.

The big 3 are going down different paths. Nintendo has generally done there own thing, but PlayStation and Xbox were always very similar. But things are changing.

I should add the Xbox One selling 58 million lifetime isn't that bad considering the circumstances. It wasn't a Wii U or PlayStation Vita size flop. That is still well more than the original Xbox, which sold 24.65 million lifetime. Yes, it is half of the PS4 and I don't see Xbox ever selling on par with PlayStation unless Sony were to mess up like they did with the PS3. Mainly due to the popularity of PlayStation and the fact you no longer need an Xbox console to play first-party Xbox games.

"Brand" was maybe not what I meant; I was referring to their console business. Their gaming business will continue to rake in the cash, but in terms of console base they're becoming a shadow of what they once were.

Right now, sales have slowed to a crawl, and unless they fix their chronically awful first party output, their relevance will continue to fade.
