Was there a promotion for the XSeries S or was it just because of EA FC + AC Mirage boosting it's sales ?

I'm aware of a promotion tie-in with EA Sports FC 24, where the game was free with a console purchase. Not aware of a price cut, unless one of the individual retailer chains is running one.

X is sporadically supply constrained. S is always in stock.
