Although I agree that Pikmin 4 will probably open more than FF16, it's not because it's a casual genre. In fact it's the opposite of casual. It's because it will be on the Switch and Switch has a better physical ratio. In terms of sales as a whole, I think it would be slightly above FF16 in Japan, and sell about the same WW. 

Given history of preorder for certain type of games I think using the simple better Switch physical ratio doesn't explain everything. Certain genre have historically pulled more people to preorder their games for said series.

Pikmin and Nintendo platformers don't usually receive the highest of pre-orders but that's because the amount of first day buyers who don't pre-order for these franchise is huge. 

Just check at how Super Mario Wonder is doing right now. Had it been, Splatoon, Xenoblade or more "hardcore" genre of games, preorders would already seem better than they are now.
