Work on the next console begins basically as soon as the previous one is out, these companies plan out their strategy years in advance. Sony and Microsoft will already be deep in planning for the PS6 and Xbox 5 right now.

As for how well it's selling, DS was still selling very well when 3DS came out, same for GBA when DS came out.

They plan them out and plans can easily be changed. Let's see what happens you might right. It's gonna be very interesting. My bet is 2025 relalease date.

It depends how far the plans have progressed. It's easy to change a plan when it's still just a plan. But the further along the process you go, the harder it gets to change course. You can't just make millions of consoles overnight when you decide you're ready, for example, that takes many months, so you have to commit to that well before the release window.

2025 is possible, yes. 2024 is possible as well.
