There are still millions of people who are in thrall to Trump, and they are rabid. No way the GOP is going to give up those votes. My hope would be that Trump would be denied the nomination in 2024 and run as a third party candidate, the way George Wallace did in 1968. Wallace didn't win, but he was the most successful third party candidate in history, at Hubert Humphrey's expense. |
That is exactly why the GOP will still be behind him and not deny him a nomination no matter what. To have that base splinter would be a disaster for them which is what Trump has held over the Republican party. I do not see anything preventing Trump from winning the primary and being nominated as the GOP best candidate.
