Impressions
General Likes
- Gunplay. while being a step back from Prey (2017) it wasn't as bad as videos/early impressions made out and at times when the game wasn't struggling was actually pretty fluid. * This absolutely requires tweaking the control settings to achieve otherwise the gunplay is an unresponsive floaty mess.
- Devinder. Was such a great character power wise that he was probably the only reason I was able to enjoy this solo.
- OST/VA. To the narration to standard characters/enemies the overall VA was pretty solid and the OST really captured the vibe they where going for.
- Art Design. Arkane have this pleasing art design that reminds me of something from Valve and that's ok with me.
General Dislikes
- Technical Bugs. Whilst overall crashes where low (I only experienced 2 crashes) the overall bug report started growing and honesty became ridiculous by the end. To list what I experienced frequently/permanently;
- The map becoming unresponsive/unusable due to becoming uncentered
- Controls becoming unresponsive and requiring I quit the game
- Enemy life bars disappearing
- Aim assist (that cannot be turned off) simply ... stopped working and never returned
- Ammo auto pickup stopped working and never returned
- Wasn't able to climb through windows and the ability to never returned either
- The very first side quest decided to glitch and I was never able to finish it
- Massive FPS drops during the later boss fights/areas to the point one mission ran at 10fps for the entirety of it and forced me to put the game down and lay down for a few hrs.
- The waypoint system or lack of. Basically requiring to open map and put a manual waypoint anytime I needed to go to a mission area.
- Too big. The first area was a fairly small area and could have easily served as the only area but there was a second that was insane in size. What's worse is there was nothing filling that space, nothing to do except go from point A to B.
- AI balancing. Do enemies want to do 10DMG per shot or 300? the game couldn't decide. Even on the easiest difficulty there where times I got mollywopped.
- Level & Skill point limitations. Level 21-22 is about all you'll really get to and the amount of skills I unlocked was very low, builds are pretty restrictive coz of that.
- Loot cycling. You find a new weapon great, immediately find something better. Let me just upgrade what I got.
- NO MELEE STAKE. I'm putting this in caps due to how mind boggling it was that one never existed. Having to change weapon to stake a vamp was a needless overlook by the devs.
- Achievements. Odd numbered cheevs. Bugged cheevs. Multiple NG run cheevs. Extremely easy to immediately fail cheevs with no way to retry. Simple sucks.
Overall score: 6.1 towards the end I was praying that it would end already, it overstayed it's welcome and the overall gameplay loop kind of sucked, there was nothing to do in a oversized play area. I will play this again after it gets significantly patched tho and a new hero drops but a second run is all this game is getting from me.
