Just Finished: Gran Turismo 7 (PS5)

This is only to acknowledge that I have completed enough of the menu books to earn the Finale and see the end credits. I am far from finished with all this game has to offer. Gran Turismo Sport was my most played game on PS4 and I can easily see this game becoming the same on PS5. This is a great game to have installed on my PS5 and play even when I am more deeply focused on other games. Even when the racing action is intense and the competition is tough to beat there is just something so relaxing about laying this game. I enjoy playing the game at 1080p 60FPS. The graphics are gorgeous and the game runs smoothly. A lot of elements are carried over from GT Sport including a lot of the music. I welcome the return of the deep customization and performance tuning aspects that were missing in the last game. The game's structure built around the aforementioned Menu Books is strange and doesn't really bear any semblance to the life of a real race car driver. I'm usually one to rag on AAA games for not having full voice acting but I can see how hearing the repetitive dialogue and instructions spoken aloud to you repeatedly could get tedious and repetitive. I am not a car or motorsport enthusiast but this is one of my favorite series. It makes me enjoy collecting and customizing new cars. I do wish the presentation were a bit more streamlined. I wish I could jump into kart races, F1 races, Dirt Rally races etc. in a more straightforward manner. Even the Scapes photo mode can be rewarding and I enjoy taking pictures of places i have been lucky enough to travel to in real life. I have only dipped my toe into the online mode. I am glad there is splitscreen multiplayer though. I think GT needs to branch out into some open world or street racing gameplay. I recently had the chance to try the game on PSVR2. The level of detail is incredible. I am not sure I could race like that long term though. The game is as good as ever but where is the innovation?

Score: 8/10
