Just Finished: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (NSO)

The oldest Zelda game that I have completed to date. It is definitely a huge evolution over the original Zelda and set the foundation for many series staple features. It did feel a tad antiquated compared to The Minish Cap, which is the only other solo 2D Zelda game I have finished. The music is pretty good and the sound design is impressive for a SNES game. The over world is large, sprawling, and packed with hidden details. I played the game by following along to a video walkthrough. So much of the shit you do in this game seems to be random and arbitrary that I am quite sure that I would never have been able to beat it on my own. The number of items to collectand the way the game asks you to use them is fun and rewarding. The boss battles are pretty epic for a 2D sprite based game. The dark world is eerie and strange. I got a great overview of many of the games secrets and quirks. The lore was sort of interesting but I did not pay close attention to it. I don't have nostalgia for this game but maybe it was truly groundbreaking at the time which is why it is often listed as one of the greatest games ever made. I admit I don't hold it in such high regard but it is nice to cross another classic Zelda/Nintendo game off my list.

Score: 8/10
