Just Finished: Bully (PS4)

Probably my favorite game that I have played so far this year. I actually own the Scholarship Edition on Wii, but I opted for the remaster of the PS2 version available on the PS4 for the widescreen HD presentation, lack of annoying motion controls, and of course trophies. The graphics are still PS2 level but they were not terrible on the eyes. The game is like a great juvenile take on the GTA series. The game strikes a balance between mischief and not outright encouraging bullying. Jimmy's journey is a fun one as he tries to help everyone around him. Some parts of the game has aged poorly, like stealing panties or taking pics of a school girl in the shower (in a T rated game no less), but for the most part is was a fun engrossing playthrough. Also the game could use fast travel to more locations besides the school and the option to quickly retry missions if you fail them. The combat is simplistic and the controls can be a bit iffy, especially during the classroom minigames. It's a piece of late ninties mid-2000s Americana. Bullworth and the surrounding towns are a neat little sandbox to play in, not too small with enough extras and secrets to keep things interesting. The game has a ton of value especially since I got it on sale for less than $10. It's a shame that Rockstar never continued the series and really doesn't make games like this anymore besides GTA and Red Dead. I'm glad I finally played it and perhaps Hogwarts Legacy will be the closest thing to a similar game I get to play in the future.
