Even before touching on supply chain issues, the cost of silicon has been going way up over the last 5-10 years as node shrinks have become more and more expensive to implement. The next console generation will likely be on 3nm and 2nm, which is right at the limit of what is possible with silicon with current understandings of computing. Those chips will be cost prohibitive for some time and it’s possible the manufacturers just decide to wait and extend this generation for as long as possible. 9th gen going 10 years before a new console is introduced is not outlandish to me |
Honestly, this generations nonsense should have ended years ago. It will be 2024 and we will still getting cross gen games because the absolutely majority of games don't need a PS5 tor un. There is no reason to refresh hardware every 6 years anymore. Hardware is sell at lost, the profit comes from software, why not keep releasing revisions and let gamers decided when to buy upgraded hardware to enjoy games with better specs?
