Skies of Arcadia is, to this day, one of my all time favourite RPGs. Part of the issue is the game got pirated into dust. But I hope this one shows up on the EShop one day, maybe a nice HD remaster. The random encounter system might be an issue for most people, as it’d be painful for people who aren’t used to it in 3D RPGs. But, this is one of those RPGs I feel could have been more than just a cult classic. I feel Sega fucked up, hard, when they cancelled the PS2 port and left it to die on GameCube with no path to major success. At the very least, they should have saved it for the Wii and followed that wave of success.

These, ones along with the Ace Attorney games, were among my favourite DS games. It’s not that the games themselves underperformed, but that the genre just isn’t big enough. It has a lot of really strong fans, but most people won’t touch these games - the genre has a hard time reaching out.
Another I’d add is Elite Beat Agents. That one was loads of fun. A mix of story and a fun rhythm game.
