This article from 2011 says that Wii Sports Resort and Wii Party would be getting a permanent $10 price drop down to $40. So it wasn't more ecpensive than other games and went for $50. Still Switch Sports is cheaper, especially when accounting for inflation, but as of what we know now will feature less content.
