The reason why it's easy to spot that the Sega numbers during the Dreamcast era are wrong is because overall Sega was losing money (even though the Amusement Center operations and Amusement Machine sales were in the black).

Since Sega revealed the consolidated financial data starting from the Annual Report 2000, I would take the data from that report which cover the period 1998-2000 whereas for the previous years I would rely on non-consolidated financial highlights.
