You probably need to watch Reloaded/Revolutions as well before this one or you probably won't understand what's going on.
Revolutions at least anyway.
This movie is actually not that complex, it's more of a straight forward continuation from the 3rd movie, we're clearly shown there that the Matrix has rebooted itself and a new version of the Matrix is beginning (and we know that there have been several different versions before).
So this movie basically just shows you that new version of the Matrix and well Neo is plugged back into it by the machines (don't think this is a spoiler since it's obvious from the trailers).
To me it's actually kind of clever what the machines do to Neo (his new life), but some people are gonna lost their shit over that because it's a little too self referential and out there of an idea.
