this is only true if the covid pandemic doesn't become worse with the new mutations.

Last I checked the general expectation is for things to overall improve over time with the pandemic since if I remember right a variant popping up that resists vaccines to the extent things are set back to square one is considered an unlikely scenario. The first half of 2022 could be rough with omicron spreading everywhere though.
