Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4)
YoY: -1
Honestly speaking, I wasn't expecting to like FFVII Remake as much as I ended up doing. I was certainly hyped for it, but not nearly as much as other people were. Obviously, I found the game to be absolutely wonderful, and the changes and additions made to the original are in my opinion excellent. I don't mind the changes to the story because the original is still there, and always available, so creating a different experience that is still true to the spirit of the original was in my opinion a great choice.
I also found the extended stories to many of the characters a great touch, and made me care much more about them compared to the original. Of course, it's difficult to yet properly compare the remake to the original because it only covers the maybe the first 8 to 10 hours of the original. The battle system is great, the first truly great example of a real-time/turn-based hybrid in the series after several earlier attempts. The music is also genuinely exceptional, taking the also phenomenal score from the original and rearranging it beautifully while also adding a lot of new music.
