NSW 2021 is 174K behind NSW 2020 with 3 weeks left of the year, if the remaining 3 weeks are flat then 2021 will total 5.79m versus 5.96m in 2020.

This will surely be the first time that NSW sales have declined  year over year in Japan although they would have increased if not for stock shortages.

Famitsu Yearly NSW totals

2017: 3,407,158

2018: 3,482,388

2019: 4,493,885

2020: 5,956,943

Were there not stock issues this time last year, as well? If there were, then that argument about 2021 would have beat 2020 may not be accurate. Covid started late 2019 in Asia and was in full force globally by like March/April 2020, so production everyone was decreasing rapidly around then. Without Covid, there would have been a lot more Switch's manufactured in 2020 and 2021, so we can't assume 2021 would be better if not for shortages since the same logic could be applied to 2020.

You're missing the point, when 2021 started we already knew about stock issues in 2020. People wouldn't have bet that 2021 would beat 2020 if 2020 had better stock and sold 7 million.
