It's not a puzzle, Series S has been readily available in most regions and is much easier to produce than the XSX/PS5.

I have never compared "chipcounts" of Series X, S, and PS5 but right out of the gate, Series S uses more critical (two kinds of ram chips to start with) chips than PS5, so the "easier to poduce" is simply wrong.

I don't think there is a way Series S sold so badly during the baseline 110k/weeks that stock simply accumulated over weeks and months. If the numberes are correctly guessed, then Sony blundered on the chips level, badly. I'd not even been hugely surprised, though. When "leaderboard things" started to move away from Japan to the States/Europe, I was starting to think "This won't go down well". Japan had an almost perfect record when it came to manufacturing stuff, so I wonder if they lost track in all the reshuffling of management restructuring.
