Yeah I don't get why in 2021 the notion that the Switch is on par or even less capable than PS3/360 still persists, when we have had so many examples by now of Switch either running 7th gen games with big upgrades, or stuff last gen just couldn't handle. It's bizarre.

There's a bunch of reasons, but a big one being if porting games like GTAV and newer AAA titles to Switch is so easy, why haven't SNY or MS come out with a handheld (hybrid) as well? MS said they've been toying with the idea and tinkering for some time. It can certainly be done with hardware, and could've in the recent past, even before Steam Deck, assuming weaker performance, so why wouldn't anyone else enter?

Other than assuming Nin has that market all wrapped up to themselves, period, you can't help but wonder why SNY at least, wouldn't launch their own. If SNY can just have all their own games, plus third party ported to it quite easily, what reason would they have not to launch another handheld (hybrid)? It would be a much different situation than past (SNY) handhelds, so that's not something that should weigh very heavily in a decision here.

It tends to make it seem easy to conclude that porting games to a Switch like device must not be that simple, otherwise why wouldn't the competition enter the market? Especially now that Switch has proved the concept for the most part. SNY has done handhelds before, MS wants to expand gaming everywhere, all the time, so what's the hold up?

Just because someone can or could, doesn't mean they will or should.

What does any of that have to do with the power level of the Switch?

And there are mountains of ports from both the 7th and 8th gen on Switch, if it was so difficult or unsustainable there wouldn't be so many.

As for why the others don't do it, they simply don't need to. Xbox's solution is streaming, and Sony learned from the Vita that trying to support two platforms at once wasn't a viable endeavour once games get to 6th gen and beyond at the low end, plus they already dominate the dedicated console market so there's no need to expend resources trying to compete with Nintendo for the handheld space.
